CV

Karin Sjöholm is an interdisciplinary stage director working across music drama, opera, and performative practices. Her work is grounded in close collaboration with artists from multiple artistic fields, including composers, writers, choreographers, singers, actors, and musicians.

She approaches each project as a long-term artistic investigation, immersing herself deeply in the themes she explores. Whether working with contemporary questions such as biodiversity loss and mass extinction, or with classical material like the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, she seeks angles that resonate with audiences today. Her process includes extensive research, dialogue, visual thinking, and philosophical inquiry, allowing concepts to evolve over time until a clear artistic key emerges.

With a background as a performer and singer, Sjöholm brings a strong embodied and musical sensibility into her directing practice. Looking ahead, she aims to develop interdisciplinary collaborations both in Denmark and internationally, creating performances that engage audiences emotionally and intellectually. She is drawn to generous, curious working environments where artists support one another and where politically, existentially, and philosophically relevant stories can be told through strong aesthetic expression.
